HEMA Higher Secondary School was founded by the HEMA Education Society as an off-shoot of HEMA (Heavy Electrical Malayalee Association) to fulfill the long dreamt educational aspirations of BHEL industrial township and the adjacent areas to have a school that caters to an educational system positively similar to that of a Public School.

The school is centrally located at Govindpura behind BHEL Dusshera Maidan near Security Lines, opposite to CISF parade ground in four acres of land. School has achieved phenomenal growth since 1973.

The aim of the school, in accordance to the aims and objectives of the society, is to nurture the young hearts academically, physically and spiritually to face the challenges of life as free citizens of the world.

The motto of the school is embodied in its emblem, the mark of a Kathakali Art. The crown represents the cultural heritage of Kerala. The Sanskrit phrase "Tamso maa jyotirgamya" means "from darkness to enlightenment" and this is depicted by the rays emitting from the book of knowledge.

The wheels on the sides represent the industrial base of our community whose humble efforts have given shape to this institution.
